FAQs

  • The short answer? Just about everything! Oriental medicine is a complete system of medicine that has been used in Asia to treat a broad range of disorders. It is helpful for both chronic and acute issues. For complex cases we suggest you speak with us before you book your first appointment, especially if you have specific questions about how acupuncture and/or herbs might be beneficial to you.

  • Acupuncture needles are thinner than horse’s hair and they are inserted gently and shallowly in most areas. While each person experiences acupuncture differently, most people feel only a minimal amount of sensation as the needles are inserted. Once the needles are in place, most of our patients tell us that they experience a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing that lasts for many hours after the treatment.

  • Loose and comfortable clothing is preferred - jeans are not recommended. If you need to remove your clothing so we can access a specific acupuncture point, we will let you do so privately and will provide you with appropriate ways to cover up.

  • Some of our patients see us weekly; however, each case is unique. Your practitioner will craft a clear treatment plan for you and will tell you how often you should have treatment. Everyone responds to treatment differently so your results will depend on your particular situation. There are certain issues that can be addressed in a visit or two; other cases might require more treatments until your goal is met. Your practitioner will be able to guide you on the results you can expect. Often, patients will notice relief from a specific symptom straight away, though we may need more time to work on the underlying root of the issue.

  • You do not need to bring anything with you, though if you do have bloodwork or test results that are relevant to your case we would like to see them. Before seeing us, we will ask you to fill out a full intake and consent forms.

  • We suggest that you have something light so that you’re not treated on an empty stomach - we don’t recommend eating a huge meal before an acupuncture session.

  • No, we do not process insurance in-house. Insurance companies have recently started including acupuncture coverage, but their regulations are fairly rigid. Adopting insurance coverage currently would mean we have to restrict our quality of care.

  • The first time you visit us at Seoul Sun, you will receive a comprehensive consultation, a diagnosis as well as an Oriental herbal remedy, if applicable. We will go through your medical history with you and will determine the best course of treatment based on your case. No labs or medical documentation are necessary, but we can look over any information that you’d like to bring.

  • We require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know as soon as you can online through the Online Booking portal, or by phone or email. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice or miss their appointment twice will no longer be allowed to book appointments.

  • We do offer consultations with no acupuncture treatment. This is an opportunity to speak with us, where you will go over your health history and we will offer any treatment plans or dietary/lifestyle advice we may have.
